Loccasione delliniziativa editoriale
The volume will trace the history of the church of Santa Maria in Campo Marzio and of the annexed portion of the same-name monastery, which today is the seat of the Procurator to the Holy See of the Syriac Patriarchate of Antioch. This publication marks the 100th anniversary of the institution of the Procurator, established in 1920. At that time, the monastic complex - whose origins date back to the 8th century with an initial community of oriental nuns who later adopted the Benedictine rule, had already long been dismembered. The oldest part, was destined to other uses; while the nuns continued, for a few years, to live in the buildings around the so-called external church, dedicated to Santa Maria della Concezione, before these were granted to the Syriac Catholic Patriarchate of Antioch. This publication will trace the history of this second portion of the complex and of its monastic community.
